Limitations
No provenance system makes fraud impossible. Studio treats authenticity as an evidence problem and applies three strategies to gathering that evidence:
- Visual sampling — the natural friction of human-directed creative work is surfaced as a visible trail
- Independent timeline — samples are timestamped by a third-party timestamp authority, not by Signet
- Independent verification — the sealed record is checked outside the system, by machine and by human review
To convincingly fake a Creative Origin Record, a forgery would need to recreate the entire visual trail of a workflow, defeat the third-party timestamp authority's process, and break the cryptographic seal — and the result would still carry the identified signature of the person making the claim.
In addition, Studio folds in manifest claims created by participating toolmakers, and gives creators a direct way to add provenance statements or record their clear absence. Accountability attaches to the content either way.
